There is a visitors' program at the Radio Observatory Effelsberg. Public lectures are offered to groups of at least 15 up to a maximum of 80 people in a pavilion at the observatory site. Normally they will be held in German, English lectures are possible on request. The lectures are scheduled as follows:April to October Tuesday to Thursday, and Saturday at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. (There are no lectures on Sundays, Mondays, Fridays, and on public holidays.) Smaller groups and individuals could arrange to attend lectures for already registered groups. But keep in mind, that the regular lectures will be normally held in German! In general, it is recommended to request and confirm via phone. For the lectures a fee of 1 EURO for adults and 50 CENT for children and pupils is asked. Credit cards cannot be accepted. For technical reasons and last but not least for security regulations it is unfortunately not possible to visit the interior of the Observatory and the telescope itself. There is no public road directly to the observatory! However, there is good access to the public park site (labeled "Radioteleskop Effelsberg"), between the two villages "Lethert" and "Effelsberg". From there, an easy walk of 10-15 minutes leads to the visitors' building (pavilion). Registration for the talks is possible via phone (working days before noon!) or via letter/fax to the following. address: Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie - Radioobservatorium Effelsberg - D-53902 Bad Münstereifel Germany Secretary: Mrs Franzen Tel.: ++49 (0)2257-301-101 Fax: ++49 (0)2257-301-105 |
